The House Committee Update: September 2020

Since the August update the 6 double glazed windows have been replaced in the clubhouse corridor and the lounge. They have served the club well, having lasted some 30 years. New doors will be fitted to the main entrance and the toilet doors in the lobby will be replaced over the next 3 weeks. The bar external cellar door is also to be renewed.

Maintenance of the clubhouse is carried out on a continuous, daily basis and costs are kept down to the minimum by using house committee members to undertake minor repairs. The bar tidy-up has been put on hold for a couple of weeks until committee members are available.

The House team would like to thank all members who use the club for following the rules to keep in line with UK Government and England Golf guidelines, and advice for protecting each other during the pandemic. Sadly though, some members are adopting a complacent attitude to the rules. Please do not seat more than 4 people from different households at any of the Lounge tables. A family of 6 can sit together, but this needs to be pre-arranged with the bar staff.  Do not move tables or chairs around – they are positioned to comply with the necessary social distancing rules. The clubhouse lounge is no different to a public house in terms of social distancing - if you break the rules, the landlord can ask you to leave. The Franchisee and his staff do not want to be put in that very difficult position, so please use common sense and obey the rules during the current pandemic. Please also wash your hands and use the hand sanitizer before you enter the lounge.

By way of explanation, the club flag is flown at full mast during the summer and taken down over the winter period. The flag will be lowered to half-mast when the club secretary has been notified of the sad event of the death of a member. Some years ago, it was decided to fly the flag at half-mast for a period of 3 days as a mark of respect. The flag is then raised until the club is informed of the date of the deceased member’s funeral, when the flag will once again be lowered to half-mast. I hope that this clears up any concerns that members may have had. We appreciate that bereavements are very delicate and sensitive matters, especially in the present circumstances.
