New Year, New Captain!

A note from our new Captain, Andy Passmore

Firstly, thank you to everyone who turned up and supported me on my drive-in. It was very much appreciated, especially given the cold weather.

Special thanks go to Alan Taylor, who was waiting out on the course measuring the drives in absolutely freezing conditions, while I was in the warmth selling yet more raffle tickets!

We raised over £500 for the charity, which is a fantastic start to my year as Captain. I must also thank all those who generously donated prizes – your support was overwhelming. This even included a couple of very generous cash donations, which I truly appreciate.

I asked our Junior Captain, Owen Walker (14 years old), to tee off first on the day. He hit a marvellous shot which, with a bit of run, made 230 yards. Up stepped yours truly and, blocking out the din and the nerves, I struck a beautiful high-power fade straight down the middle… unfortunately, in the very heavy conditions it plugged on landing and only managed 183 yards – otherwise I’d have had him!

Well done to Paul Conyard, who correctly guessed 181–185 yards and wins a bottle of vodka.

Finally, thanks to our bar & catering team for the lovely soup and sandwiches, and for making sure everyone was well looked after with refreshments of their choice.
