The House Committee Update: May, 2019

The programme of refurbishment work for the Alan Barrett suite is now close to completion. The carpet needs to be cleaned and we have a new patio window to be fitted… this may very well be done by the time the May Newsletter is published. The badly weathered varnish finish on the Alan Barrett balcony has been stripped down to virtually bare wood. It has taken a little longer than expected to apply two coats of replacement varnish to both the balcony and staircase but this has also now been completed and the balcony will be available for use from early May, although the balcony furniture still needs some refurbishment and cleaning.

A new balcony clock will soon be installed to replace the old one. The clock is being sponsored by Carruthers Jewellers in Saltburn……. many thanks to them and to past President, Dave Tongue, for arranging this sponsorship. We are hoping to arrange for Peter Carruthers to visit the Golf Club for a small presentation ceremony in the near future.

Painting of the bar area is on hold presently……this kind of work needs to be carefully planned over quieter periods so as to cause minimum disruption to members and visitors.

Quite a lot of the work done directly by the House team goes unnoticed – maintenance, such as lock replacements, cleaning and tidying of the clubhouse rear yard and the area used by the Professional for cleaning practice ground balls have been carried out during the month.

An inspection of the external clubhouse structure and fabric will be undertaken during May. Six corridor windows are known to need replacement as do a number of sills which are in poor condition.

The next House Committee meeting will be held on May 7th. Should you wish to get involved with the House team then please come along to any of the scheduled meetings or speak directly to House Chair, Fred Pattison.
