Union Team Report: June, 2019

Our Men’s Teesside Union team has made a reasonable start to the season. We won 13-11 away to Hunley Hall, drew at home to Rockliffe 12-12, won at home to Barnard Castle 18-6, but then unfortunately lost away at Ineos 13-11 and at home to Middlesbrough Municipal 15-9.

The whole squad has shown tremendous commitment to practice sessions and match days. Without doubt the biggest plus has been the number of players who have caddied for players at both home and away fixtures. Their presence, advice and guidance has certainly helped the people playing to win their matches and gain valuable points in our quest for promotion. It certainly highlights the importance of having a committed and dedicated squad.

On the 5 May we played Low Laithes GC in the Yorkshire Foursomes Tournament at Pike Hills GC, we achieved a great result winning the match 8 & 6. On Sunday 16 June we play Dewsbury GC at Wetherby in the next round.

On the 8 May, we played at Pike Hills GC in the 6th Division Yorkshire Championship. The competition was reduced to 18 holes due to adverse weather conditions. We finished outside the top 6 and therefore remain in that division for next season. Well done to the players who took part and played in the very wet conditions.

On the 18 May we played away at Wynyard GC in the 5-man team Annodata match play competition. The players achieved a fantastic result winning 3-2. On Saturday 22 June we will play Malton & Norton GC at home in the next round.

I would like to thank the Club sponsors SG Petch for funding the team clothing.
