Welcome to September’s newsletter. Well done to everyone who took part in the Club Championships, both Men’s and Ladies.

For the weekend of the Men’s competitions the weather on the Saturday was very windy and, on the Sunday, it was extremely wet.  This made the competitions across all divisions somewhat of an endurance test. Congratulations to Stephen Henderson in winning the club championship, an excellent achievement in very testing conditions. Also, congratulations to Ian Lovatt who won the second division championship and Mike Johnson who won the third division championship.  Jim Kane was crowned Senior Club Champion and Keith Prytherch won the Vice President Trophy for competitors in the 6-10 handicap band. Thank you to everyone involved in making it a very enjoyable weekend of golf - sadly we can’t do much about the weather conditions.

The tining of the greens was also interrupted by the weather. The greens staff worked very hard in getting them done over several days with the course being closed only two days rather than three. It was a great team effort with a number of members assisting the greens staff, thank you for everyone’s contribution.

If you receive the local Coastal View newspaper you will see the club’s eight-page supplement celebrating our 125th anniversary and promoting the club, course and its facilities to the wider community. It took a concerted effort from the marketing committee and the editors of the newspaper to put the supplement together. I think they all did a remarkable job. A big thank you also to all the businesses who advertised in the supplement. If you don’t receive the newspaper there are a number of copies at the club.

The union team narrowly missed out on promotion by three points, thank you for everyone’s time and commitment during the season. Let’s hope we can achieve promotion next year.

One final point regarding health and safety, can I remind everyone playing the course, that if they hit a ball out of bounds onto Hob Hill Lane or into the houses to the left-hand side of the first fairway, they MUST report the incident to the professional shop or main office.
