Presidents Update: July, 2019
Welcome to the Saltburn Golf Club July Newsletter. I hope you continue to find the content of the newsletters both informative and interesting, I am very grateful for the time and effort that the marketing committee and Carole Wagstaff commit to collate, present and circulate the document for the benefit of the club. We continue to increase the Members Interest section and if you have any ideas about anything relating to the club please forward them to Julie.
In May’s newsletter I asked for some rain due to the very dry month of April when greens staff were watering greens. Well, we have had it in abundance during June and it hasn’t always been occurring overnight! The course has certainly benefited from the wet weather and it looks in great condition.
Let’s hope we now get a sustained period of dry warm weather. A big thank you to everyone who took part in the trick shot day on Sunday 30 June. We had a shotgun competition on the day, won with a fantastic score of 47 points by Chris Condell and Paul Baldwin. We were then entertained for an hour by David Edwards whose display of trick shots was amazing. Mr. Edwards took video footage of everyone playing during the day and this provided us with some amusing entertainment whilst we all sat down for a well-deserved meal to round off the day. Our next 125 event is the Hickory Shaft competition on Sunday 28 July. The start sheet is located in the main corridor if you wish to take part.
You will have noticed that on each of the tees there is a small black bucket containing sand. This is provided for people who smoke to deposit their cigarette ends. There is also a larger bucket situated at the rear of the first tee. I am very grateful to Peter Webb for providing the containers.
Can I remind everyone that it is our joint responsibility to assist in keeping the course in prime condition for members and visitors. Please use the divot bags and take one with you when you start your round, even if you don’t take many divots yourself. Please always repair pitch marks and rake bunkers.
