Saltburn-by-the-Sea Golf Club - Card of the Course

Hole 1
Par 4 - 301 yards - S.I. 15
"A tricky tee shot as there is out of bounds on the left, bushes on the right and the landing area is blind. Take no chances with a wood! Instead, it is an ideal hole for a 4-iron for safety, with a 9-iron or wedge to the green".
Hole 2
Par 3 - 150 yds - S.I. 12
"This requires a 7 or 8-iron Always play to the back of this one, as it always comes off the bank. This hole plays longer than its yardage as it is uphill from the tee".
Hole 3
Par 4 - 282 yds - S.I. 18
"Use your driver and aim slightly left of the marker post to a blind green with bunkers to left and right. A good drive will take you to about 30 yards from the green, leaving a very short, chip shot".
Hole 4
Par 4 - 363 yds - S.I. 5
"Two blind shots involved with this one! A tee shot right of the marker gathers towards the middle of the fairway. Depending on the direction and force of the wind, a 9-iron or a wedge aimed towards the marker behind the green. A very tricky hole!".
Hole 5
Par 4 - 270 yds S.I. 17
"This green is within range if the wind is in the right direction. Usually a drive between the valley and a very short chip gives a very good birdie opportunity".
Hole 6
Par 4 - 377 yds - S.I. 3
"An uphill drive to the marker post! The best line is usually very slightly left. This leaves a better line into the green. The second shot is difficult, being downhill. Try to fly the ball to the front of the green to get the softest bounce".
Hole 7
Par 4 - 466 yds - S.I. 1
"Usually into the prevailing wind, the 7th is a very tough hole. Almost playing as a Par 5, a long straight drive is essential if you want to hit this green in two shots. A long iron or wood is needed for your second shot to a well-guarded, bunkered green. A bogey here isn't a disgrace!".
Hole 8
Par 4 - 296 yds - S.I. 14
"A 5-iron to the marker post leaves an easy wedge to the green. An ambitious drive can be heroic - or totally disastrous!".
Hole 9
Par 3 - 166 yds - S.I. 11
"This requires a 6 or 7-iron from the back tee. Aim towards the back right corner of the green for the best line in at this interesting Par 3".
Hole 10
Par 4 - 370 yds - S.I. 7
"With out of bounds on the left, the tee shot should be aimed out towards the right hand side of the fairway. This leaves the best line into the green with a short iron"
Hole 11
Par 4 - 337 yds - S.I. 6
"With trees maturing both left and right of the
fairway this is a cracker of a hole with caution required on the tee. A drive followed by a 9-iron is the norm".
Hole 12
Par 3 - 223 yds - S.I. 4
"This long Par 3 can make or break any score card. With bushes to the left and right, and a tree just short of the green, followed by bunkers on both sides of the green, you should aim a long iron or wood towards the right hand side of the green. This usually gathers towards the centre".
Hole 13
Par 5 - 506 yds - S.I. 13
"Care from the tee is a must. Aim to left hand side of the fairway from the tee as the ball gathers to the centre. Again, with your second shot, aim towards the left of the green, leaving an easier approach shot away from the new bunker guarding the right hand side of the green".
Hole 14
Par 4 - 354 yds - S.I. 9
"A straight forward tee shot towards the marker, followed by a medium short approach shot to a two-tier green.
Hole 15
Par 4 - 417 yds S.I. 2
"This is straight forward from the tee, but the second shot is always difficult as the land slopes from left to right. Always aim for the front left of the green and allow the natural contours to run the ball to the centre of the green".
Hole 16
Par 5 - 475 yds - S.I. 10
"From the tee always aim left of centre of the fairway to get the best position on the fairway. For a safe par, use a medium iron to lay up short of the ditch, followed by a 9-iron or wedge to the green".
Hole 17
Par 4 - 319 yds - S.I. 16
"A drive over the marker post will always leave you in good position for your chip to the green. Take no chances and aim for the centre of the green as an adventurous chip usually finds trouble!".
Hole 18
Par 3 - 225 yds - S.I. 8
"A daunting closing Par 3! Downhill, well bunkered, out of bounds left and all Saltburn and beyond in full view. Not the easiest closing hole in the world! My advice is to aim for the front right hand side of the green to let the contours take the ball to the centre".
