E.G.G.S. (The Elderly Gentlemen’s Golf Section)
The Purpose of the Section
To provide friendly and social golf for the elderly and retired members
Qualification for membership
To be:
Member of Saltburn Golf Club
Aged 55 or over
Retired from full time employment
Finance
There shall be an annual fee charged to each member. The fee to be set by the membership at it’s annual general meeting held in January of each year.
The full amount of money raised in annual fees to be returned to the members each year by:-
Cost of trophies and prizes for winners of the respective competitions.
Cost of prizes awarded on the "Fun Day"
Any surplus to be used to subsidise the cost of the meal on the "Fun Day", this also to include the cost of entertaining the Member invited to present the prizes.
Competitions
Matches against the "Eggs Sections" of other Golf Clubs on a home and away basis. The number of matches to be agreed with the Saltburn Golf Club Competition Secretary. Home matches to be played on Tuesdays or Wednesday.
A "Merit Table" competition
This to comprise of five competitions organised once per month on a date to be agreed with the Club Competition Secretary. The competition type shall be at the discretion of the Section’s Competition Secretary. A further Pairs competition will be organised on one or the merit Days.
Points will be awarded on the basis of 50 points to the winner of each competition, 49 points to the second, 48 points to third and so on for the first 50 in the competition.
All Competitions will be played off full handicaps and from the Yellow Tees, thus qualifying for handicap adjustment.
Players will:-
sign a starting sheet or enter their name in the handicap computer in the Professional Shop.
arrange their own playing partners in groups of not more than three.
The last tee off time to be 3:30 p.m.
the scores will be accumulative and when the last competition has been played the member who tops the table will receive a prize as the player of the Year.
There will be a final at the end of the season of 10 members who have qualified from the Five merit competitions plus the two highest non-qualifiers in the Merit Table.
There will be two divisions split according to handicap at a point where there will be approximately equal numbers in each division at the start of the season.
The winner of each division in each of the five competitions will be the qualifiers. Should a qualifier win a division in a subsequent competition, the next non-qualified player in that division on that day will go forward into the final.
Pairs Match Play Competition
This is a four ball better ball match play competition, and shall be played according to the following RULES:-
Players choose their own partners but may not play with the same partner two years in succession.
Strokes will be given to the higher handicap players based upon 3/4 of the difference between the handicap of that player and the lowest handicap competitor.
Matches will be played from the yellow tees.
Matches may not start later than 3.30 p.m.
All matches will start from the first tee.
The responsibility for arranging dates and times to play shall rest equally upon both pairs.
No extension beyond the posted completion date for a round will be given. In the event that competitors fail to agree a date before the stipulated date, then, either.
Both pairs will be eliminated
The match will be played on the stipulated closing date of the round, starting no later than 3.30 p.m.
A side may be represented by either partner (Golf Rules 31.2) for all or any part of a stipulated round. Both partners need not be present.
If one pair only are able to play by the stipulated closing date then they must appear on the 1st tee on that date and make their appearance known to another CLUB member, reporting the fact to the E.G.G.S. Competition Secretary or Chairman.
Matches must be played to a finish. Should a match be all square after 18 holes, then the match will continue from the 1st tee and will be played to "sudden death".
Having started a match, and should the weather be such that either or both parties agree that conditions are such that reasonable golf cannot continue, or if the course is closed by either the Club Committee or ground staff, then the match will be continued at a later time at the hole at which play was discontinued. If the abandoned round cannot be completed before the completion date, the result will be decided by the toss of a coin.
Results must be entered on the competition sheet within 24 hours of the closing date of the particular round., otherwise both pairs will be eliminated.
In the event of any problems arising from the competition, the matter must be raised with the Section’s Competition Secretary, who if unable to resolve it will refer to the Section Committee, whose decision will be final.
Singles Match Play Competition
This is a singles match play competition, and shall be played according to the following RULES:-
Strokes will be given to the higher handicap player based upon full difference between the handicaps.
Matches will be played from the yellow tees.
Matches may not start later than 3.30 p.m.
All matches will start from the first tee.

Fun Day
Once the winners of the various competitions are known and the trophies prepared, A "Fun Day" will be organised. All members can take part in a Stableford competition with prizes presented as the Section Committee decides. The event will be concluded by a lunch at the Golf Club when a Senior of the Club will be invited to attend and present the prizes. Any surplus funds from the Section’s annual subscriptions to be used to subsidise the price of the meal.
Ladies Match
An annual match against a team from the Ladies Section of Saltburn Golf Club will be arranged followed by a social get together in the Club House.
Rabbits Match
An annual match against a team from the Rabbits Section of Saltburn Golf Club will be arranged for the "Redvers Blakey Trophy". The winners to hold the trophy for one year. This event to be followed by a social get together in the Club House.
The Section Committee
At their first meeting following the Section’s Annual General Meeting, the elected committee will appoint Section Officials as follows

Team V/Captain and Competitions Secretary
The Committee may co-opt at their discretion any other section member for the purpose of assisting in any special event as they deem necessary
