Away Day 2008

The away day is to be at Thirsk and Northallerton GC this year and all details will be displayed on the notice board a bit nearer the time.

Peter Hildreth has made some preliminary enquiries, and we have agreed on a venue and await comfirmation. More when Peter returns from holiday.

August 22nd was the date, and 36 members arrived at Thirsk & Northallerton G C. around lunch time for soup and sandwiches and a drink of whatever one fancied. Peter was there to check us in, assisted by by George and Trevor who extracted the balance from us as we arrived. Weather looked a bit "iffy", and true to form, it was wets on and off all afternoon. This made golf difficult as there was quite a strong breeze as well. However we all got round in one state or another, ready for a nice warm shower, a few drinks for those who were not driving and a good meal. The hospitality and the quality of the food was excellent. Prizes went to the winner, Mike Johnson, runner up Trevor Armstrong with John Lindley & Ian Coombes in 3rd & 4th place. Vaughan Dexter won nearest the pin by default, some one else was nearer, but forgot to put his name on the sheet. Vaughan was so far away, he nearly didn't bother to put his name on either but was persuaded to do so by his playing partners. He was, after all, in the leading group and was first to hit the green. Everybody agreed that it was a good day in all aspects except the weather.
