Last Tuesday was our last event of the season when we held our annual social evening. There was a total of  more than 70 (members plus guests) who sat down to dinner at the club. Steve did us proud with the meal which was enjoyed by all.  We were entertained afterwards by a ladies choir -Renaissance- who were very professional in there choice of songs to suit the occasion, and they had an excellent accompanist. There was also a very interesting "Dingbats" competition for everyone to have a go at during the evening, which stimulated a lot of conversation. All in all it was a very successful event and a good time was had by those attending.  My thanks go to Stan Falconer and his wife Dorothy who were responsible for the organization of this our 7th social night. If you missed it this year, then make sure you don't next time. That's it from me until the AGM

There was 45 members participating in the Fun Day Competition. The weather kind to us, and although overcast, it remained fine. The Club Vice Captain, Steve Farrell, was invited to join us for the event, and he enjoyed his day. He presented the seasons prizes to the successful players. See results page for details. The meal was excellent and everyone received a bottle of wine and a sleeve of balls. Really good value for money, and those who chose not to play, were the losers. We only have two matches left to play this season, and the final event is the Social Night on October 21st. I hope that we get a good turn out for this very popular end of season event.

We are coming to the end of our season and thoughts are turning towards the Fun Day. All competitions have been resolved, we have regained the Redvers Blakey shield by defeating the Rabbits 3-1, Now for the Ladies towards the end of this week. We have had our away day, and my thanks go to Peter Hildreth for the work he put into arranging the day which went very well in spite of some poor weather. That has not been an unusual occurrance this year. The last merit was better attended than the one before, and I was pleased to see that 30 of our members had made the effort..  Tuesdays meeting will finalise preparations for fun day, and playing groups and times will be posted on our notice board..

Tues August 5th '08

I have just got the results of last Wed's merit. It was our lowest ever turn out with only 17 members participating. Not good enough !!. However , congratulations to Louis Gladman for an excellent result of a nett 61. see how it helps to change your playing partners. Don't forget the fun-day entrance sheet is now up.

Tuesday just gone saw the second Senior's Open get under way. The weather on the three previous days gave some cause for concern, but the luck was with us and we had a fine morning to give us some hope.  During the day there was a couple of very heavy downpours, but fortunately of short duration. The greens flooded a bit during the second spell of wet, but the greens staff did an excellent job to keep the course open, to enable the competition to be completed. The results are on another page, but there was one or two interesting scores. The winning card of 49 pts, only had 2 birdies,  there were two 2s on the fifth, and believe it or not, there was a two on the 14th.  One pair were  disqualified for an incorrect gross score, (on one hole), this promoted a Saltburn pair into 6th position right at the end of the day. Well done Dave Gettings & Ken Quinn 4th, and Frank Lowdon & Ted Bottomley 6th, Les Gorman and Jim Wheatley for nabbing the whisky for nearest the pin on 2nd & 18th respectively. My thanks to all those who helped during the day, it would be difficult to run a competition without your co-operation.

Wed May 28th'08

For the third merit , (the second having being cancelled due to weather),  we had 31 entries. Three members played well enough to have their handicaps 'tweaked'. The conditions were good for golf, though probably better for afternoon starters.  Congratulations to those who beat the course. The next merit will be a 4BBB competition, so get your partners lined up.

Last Wed saw the first Seniors open completed with out any problems.  I was a bit apprehensive on Monday of last week when the course, having being closed all day Sunday, was again closed until 10.00 am. My thanks to all those members of the section who gave their time on a cold but dry day to act as starter or ball spotters from early morning to mid afternoon. The performance of the day was no doubt the outstanding score from our Eggs Captain, Terry, and Gordon with a score of 50 pts. In spite of what has been said else where on our site, Terry is at least ten years older than reported. Well done to the winning pair.

Wed March 26th '08

After our committee meeting last week when most us returned from holidays, we feel we are ready for the new season.  Terry Gill will be looking after the teams for matches against other clubs, while Trevor Armstrong will be in charge of competitions. The weather has not been favourable of late , but yesterday we played our first merit competition.  Although due to frosty conditions early morning, we were on temporary greens, there were some good scores in. See results page. There were only 30 of our75 members participating, which is quite disappointing from my point of view, and I hope this will improve as we go into the rest of the season. The matches start next Tues when we visit Bedale, our usual first fixture. Those  who put names on the sheet but not lucky in the draw for places, please don't despair you will get your chance.

Feb 1st 2008

We had the annual meeting recently which was attended by only 32 of the section's membership.  Last year we had more than ninety. I know that not every one is keen on meetings, and especially an AGM.

There was some keen discussion, after the usual reports were read, on various aspects of our season, and we hope that the coming season will be enjoyed by all I look forward to meeting new members and also that we get similar numbers as last year. Our first committee meeting in on Mar 18th where we will endeavour to get the season under way
